Negat Ethiopia Radio Presenter

Wondimagegn Alemayehu worked back home as an Ethiopian TV Presenter, Ethiopian Radio Broadcaster and Journalist. He's been producing the show for the past five years and is also involved in training young British Ethiopians who want to get involved in the media as Negat new recruits.

Negat or “Sunrise” is our Ethiopian Radio Programme. There are around 40,000 - 45,000 Ethiopians in the UK and this is their only show in the Ethiopian Language.

Established in 1998 the show started primarily as a sexual health information programme in response to the HIV AIDS epidemic affecting East Africa. The show later evolved into the exclusive Ethiopian Radio Programme that it is today. In it's current form, Negat provides practical information to Ethiopians everywhere on the issues of health, welfare, housing, finance and business development along with news from home and abroad.  For many Ethiopians in the UK and the wider Ethiopian Community Worldwide, Negat is a great Ethiopian Radio Show and a vital resource of information, playing some of the best Ethiopian Music.
A highspot was the 12th September 2007 which was a major celebration for Ethiopians everywhere. According to the Ge'ez Calender it was the Ethiopian Millenium. In the Ge'ez Calender, each month consists of 30 days except the 13th month which only has 5 days.
The word 'coffee' (cafe in French) is taken from the name of the province in Ethiopia called 'Keffa', where coffee bushes grow wild.

Negat Ethiopia Radio is managed by the Ethiopian Community Centre UK.
