Established in 1998 the show started primarily as a health information programme in response to the HIV epidemic affecting East Africa. The show later evolved into the exclusive Ethiopian radio programme that it is today. In its current form, Negat provides practical information to Ethiopians everywhere on the issues of health, welfare, housing, finance and business development along with news from home and abroad. For many Ethiopians in the UK and the wider Ethiopian Community Worldwide, Negat’s success derives not only from its excellent radio journalism but also its community and global news coverage. Its music content draws from one of the most diverse music back catalogues throughout East Africa.
