Negat Ethiopia Radio
Sometimes referred to as the Cradle of Humanity, Ethiopia is not only recognised as the spiritual homeland of the Rasta Movement but as one of the most distinctive countries in the whole of Africa. A multicultural city for thousands of years Addis Ababa is not only famed for it’s beautiful Coptic Churches but is also the birthplace of 'Ethiopiques'; a melodious jazz fusion music which has proved to be one of it’s most popular cultural exports throughout the African Music and global Music Scene. Featuring a full weekly news round-up, community information, music and sport, Negat Ethiopia Radio is not only a vital resource for Ethiopians everywhere but is also great to listen to. Established in 1998 the show started primarily as a health information programme in response to the HIV epidemic affecting East Africa. The show later evolved into the exclusive Ethiopian radio programme that it is today. In its current form, Negat provides practical information to Ethiopians everywhere on the issues of health, welfare, housing, finance and business development along with news from home and abroad. For many Ethiopians in the UK and the wider Ethiopian Community Worldwide, Negat’s success derives not only from its excellent radio journalism but also its community and global news coverage. Its music content draws from one of the most diverse music back catalogues throughout East Africa. Check out our guide to listening to Spectrum on SKY.
