Amrit Vela Radio is our Sikh Radio
Programme presented by Lucky Dhillon O.B.E. Amrit Vela Radio was the
first ever Sikh programme to transmit live every day from the Golden Temple in
Amritsar in India. It's now a hugely popular show throughout the Sikh Community
worldwide and Sikhs in the UK, playing a mix of devotional Sikh music and
prayer. Sikhism is recognised as the fifth largest religion in the world with
over 23 million devotees worldwide.
Amrit Vela Radio is also a registered
charity and in 2005 Amrit Vela radio listeners raised thousands of pounds for
Gurdwara Shaheedan Singha Singhian; the first gurdwara built in Lahore,
Pakistan since 1947. Amongst her many achievements, Lucky is
particularly proud of making one Listeners dream, to visit the Golden
Temple, a reality. Access would have been an issue for the young disabled
woman but Lucky not only saw to it that provisions were made for both
the flight and Temple visit but also accompanied her on her pilgrimage.
