HOW MANY?

London’s Sikh settlers arrived from the Punjab region of Northwest India during the 1920s, 1950s and 60s. In the 1970s members of the faith from East Africa also arrived in London.

Now there are nearly 400,000 Sikhs in Britain.

WHERE DO THEY LIVE?

Next to Toronto and Vancouver, London has the wealthiest Sikh community outside of India. Most live in West London, Southall being the heart of the community.  Southall has the largest Sikh community in the world outside the Punjab in India.

Ealing is home to Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara, the largest Sikh temple outside India.  There’s now a magnificent new building in Havelock Road that has a main prayer hall for up to 3,000 people.
