The Ethiopian Community Centre in the UK was founded on the 17th September 1994, to relieve poverty among Ethiopian refugees and asylum seekers, by the provision of advice and guidance on education and training, health related issues, business start up, welfare benefit, housing, immigration, etc. ECCUK is a registered charity in England and Wales. In addition to running different services to Ethiopian refugees, asylum seekers and migrants, We also have a radio programme in Amharic called ‘Negat Ethiopia Radio Amharic Service’, which is on air 17.00-18.00 every Saturday on Spectrum Radio 558AM / MWThere is an estimated number of 20,000-30,000 Ethiopians living in the UK and therefore it was very difficult for us to reach them all. This programme has helped us a lot in reaching our community every week. We give information on health and social services by interviewing Ethiopian professionals, Ministers, MP’s and others. We also have an entertainment part to help Ethiopians living in the UK to remember their culture. This will help them to keep their culture, as well as integrate to the host country. The full radio programme is available on our website www.eccuk.org so that Ethiopians living in other parts of the world will also listen to the voice of Ethiopians in the UK.Having a radio programme in Amharic was the most effective way of giving information as it is very vital for the Ethiopian community. The staffs, volunteers and Management Committee of ECCUK are very delighted to the achievement of the organization in general and the radio programme in particular.
