How To Listen on D.A.B.
D.A.B. offers a host of advantages over conventional AM (Medium Wave) and FM, most notably crystal-quality sound and ultra-easy tuning.EquipmentTo hear Spectrum Radio’s D.A.B. broadcasts you will need a DAB (“Digital Audio Broadcast”) -equipped radio. Although DAB is often referred to as “Digital” Radio, not all radios with a digital display are DAB-equipped. Many AM and FM radios these days have LCD frequency displays, but might not be capable of receiving DAB broadcasts. DAB-equipped radios bear the “DAB” logo. If in doubt, consult your retailer or supplier.LocationOnce you’ve got your DAB radio, you’re ready to go! Please note that DAB offers a wide range of stations, depending on your location in the country. Most stations are only available in certain areas of the UK. Spectrum Radio is available in the Greater London area. Outside of this area, you will not be able to tune into Spectrum Radio using a DAB receiver. However, you can still hear all the programmes on our DAB service, anywhere in the world, via the internet. Just click on DAB “Listen Live” on the SpectrumRadio.net homepage. (Or, if you miss a show, you can select “Listen Again” from the programme’s page on our website at any time.)Tuning into Spectrum on a DAB radioTuning to a station with a DAB is much simpler than using a “traditional” radio. Here’s a quick guide:First up, always ensure that your DAB Radio’s aerial is fully extended vertically. Now, switch on your radio. If it’s the very first time you’ve used the radio, you’ll need to scan for available stations. Your radio should have an “Autotune” or “Scan” button. Press this (you often need to hold this button down for a few seconds to activate the scanning process.) Your radio will automatically search for stations. This should take about a minute and once it is done, your radio will have stored all the information it has collected. You do not need to perform this scan each time you use the radio. Next time you switch on, the DAB Radio will be ready to use instantly. With a “conventional” radio, you tune to stations by their frequency. If you want to listen to a particular broadcaster, first you have to know that station’s frequency, and then tune your radio to it. With DAB Radios, however, you only need to know the NAME of the station. For tuning there will be either a click dial, or UP and DOWN buttons. Each movement will change the station name on the display. Some DAB radios have a SELECT button. If you want to hear the station shown in the display as you scroll through the list of stations just press the SELECT button. Other DABs will automatically tune to the station name displayed after a few seconds if you stop pressing the tuning buttons. Consult your radio’s Operation Manual for step-by-step instructions tailored to your specific model of radio. Most DAB radios store stations alphabetically, making finding a station especially easy. Some allow you to chose the sequence in which station names appear as you tune, and most allow you to store your favourite stations into memory for one-touch tuning. Again, please check out the Operation Manual for details. Unlike traditional radios, DAB Receivers never “drift” off-frequency, so once you’ve tuned in to Spectrum there really is no need to touch that dial. Just enjoy clear, clean digital sound!
