Brick Lane is the heart of the London Bangladeshi community.

Everybody knows “Banglatown” It has become a favourite food haunt for Londoners with scores of Balti and curry houses and a vibrant market.

HOW MANY?

It’s estimated that there are 200,000 Bangladeshis living in Greater London. That’s more than the Pakistani community. . London is home to the single largest number of people of Bangladesi origin outside of Bangladesh and third generation Bangladeshis are on their way to establishing themselves in the mainstream of London commerce and politics.

WHERE DO THEY LIVE?

The community remains concentrated around Bethnal Green and Whitechapel particularly around Spitalfields and has spread into Camden, Westminster and Newham. They are contributing to political life with many elected to the local councils in Tower Hamlets and Newham
